These papers are assigned a 10-page limit. Short paper: Ongoing works with relevant preliminary results, open to discussion. These papers are assigned a 7-page limit. Poster paper: Initial work with relevant ideas, open to discussion. These papers are assigned to a 4-page limit. Company paper: Companies' papers that show practical experience, R & D, tools, etc., focused on some topics of the conference. These papers are assigned to a 4-page limit. Submitted papers must comply with the format of Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems series (see Instructions for Authors at Springer Website) <https://mkt.saisti.eu/go/4c8d0737ef-2-1d88c9ad6028c4a-c21b5-af251dec2-476d4…>, be written in English, must not have been published before, not be under review for any other conference or publication and not include any information leading to the authors’ identification. Therefore, the authors’ names, affiliations and bibliographic references should not be included in the version for evaluation by the Program Committee. This information should only be included in the camera-ready version, saved in Word or Latex format and also in PDF format. These files must be accompanied by the Consent to Publish form filled out, in a ZIP file, and uploaded at the conference management system. All papers will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least two members of the Program Committee. Based on Program Committee evaluation, a paper can be rejected or accepted by the Conference Chairs. In the later case, it can be accepted as the type originally submitted or as another type. Thus, full papers can be accepted as short papers or poster papers only. Similarly, short papers can be accepted as poster papers only. Poster papers and Company papers are not published in the Conference Proceedings, being only presented and discussed. The authors of accepted poster papers should build and print a poster to be exhibited during the Conference. This poster must follow an A1 or A2 vertical format. The Conference includes Work Sessions where these posters are presented and orally discussed, with a 7 minute limit per poster. The authors of accepted Full papers will have 15 minutes to present their work in a Conference Work Session; approximately 5 minutes of discussion will follow each presentation. The authors of accepted Short papers and Company papers will have 11 minutes to present their work in a Conference Work Session; approximately 4 minutes of discussion will follow each presentation. Publication and Indexing To ensure that a full paper or short paper is published and presented, poster paper or company paper is presented, at least one of the authors must be fully registered by the 5th of January 2024, and the paper must comply with the suggested layout and page-limit. Additionally, all recommended changes must be addressed by the authors before they submit the camera-ready version. No more than one paper per registration will be published. Two types of Workshops may be proposed: Regular Workshops and Project Workshops. Regular Workshops should focus on a specific scientific subject on the scope of CISTI 2024 but not directly included on the main conference areas. Each regular workshop will be coordinated by an Organizing Committee composed of, at least, two researchers in the field, preferably from different institutions and different countries. The organizers should create an international Program Committee for the Workshop, with recognized researchers within the specific Workshop scientific area. Each workshop should have at least 10 submissions and 5 accepted papers in order to be conducted at CISTI. Project Workshops are intended to promote the dissemination and facilitate the future exploitation of EU Latin-American and national project results such as EU/Horizon, CSIC, FCT, QREN, Portugal 2020 or 20230, Fund. Gulbenkian, CYTED, CAPES, CNPq, FINEP and other Projects/funding sources. The results to be disseminated may be preliminary project results (for unfinished projects) or the project final results (for already finished projects). Each project workshop should be directly related to a Project funded in a competitive manner by a National/International Science Organization. The Workshop should be coordinated by an Organizing Committee composed by at least two researchers including the Principal Investigator of the project. Each Workshop will have 1 article offered for 10 articles with paid registration, 2 articles offered for 20 articles with paid registration, and 3 articles offered for 40 articles with paid registration. The selection of Workshops will be performed by CISTI 2024 Conference Chairs. Workshops full papers will be published in the conference main proceedings in specific Workshop chapters. Proceedings will be submitted for indexation by WoS, SCOPUS, EI-Conpendex, INSPEC and Google Scholar. Two Open NLP Positions at University of Würzburg (CAIDAS)

The Data Science Chair at JMU Würzburg as a member of the Center for AI and Data Science (CAIDAS) offers two positions for doctoral researchers (m/w/d) in the area of machine learning and natural language processing. The first position will work within the BigData@Geo2 project, the followup of the successful BigData@Geo project [1], that provides machine-learning-aided decision support for agricultural measures in the light of regional climate change. This includes prediction of crop yields and enabling proactive agricultural strategies. The second position is part of the LitBERT project, which focuses on developing machine learning solutions to support and improve the modelling and analysis of characters in literary texts. The BigData@Geo2 position will allow you to work on data from many small companies in the form of historical yearbooks, as well as general information from local newspapers or social media discussing local climate events. Using this data, you will develop new methods for discovering climate, ecosystem and agriculturally relevant events that assist in the overarching goal of BigData@Geo2 of assessing the economic viability of agricultural decisions, such as which crops to grow in future seasons, or predicting crop yield. In the LitBERT position, you will work with a large collection of German literary texts such as narratives and novels to develop improved language models that provide a foundation for comprehensive analysis of literary characters. This includes automatic extraction of character traits, categorizing their types, and analysis of the complex evolution of relationships between characters in literary texts. The work focuses on using and improving state-of-the-art language models to effectively address the unique challenges posed by literary texts. Payment is at the level of E13 according to the German federal wage agreement scheme (TV-L). Candidates are expected to have a strong background in computer science and mathematics, with a specialization in machine learning and interest in the topic of one of the positions. Prior knowledge in the field of deep learning in one of the subject areas is advantageous. Overview ======== Complex networks analysis has been shown to be useful for gaining insights in a wide variety of applications domains such as social interactions, ecology, biological, healthcare, safety and security, and many more. These applications have motivated the extension of network models to richer representations and augmented complex network models, such as feature-rich and higher-order network models. Examples include multiplex networks, multilayer networks, temporal networks attributed networks and network on networks. Machine learning approaches are being extensively used for obtaining insights into/using these models and for mining knowledge from these models and for a variety of tasks including node classification and role identification, link prediction, community detection, anomaly detection and much more. These tasks are generally required to enable and support critical decisions and should so be largely trustworthy. XAI approaches should be adapted to the networked context, and network analysis can also contribute to devise explainability-oriented features in the targeted applications areas.
