The goal of the workshops is to provide a venue for presenting research on focused topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges. Tutorials are designed to provide fundamental knowledge and experience on topics related to intelligent user interfaces, and the intersection between Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Note: We encourage you to contact the chairs with your ideas (wt2023(a)iui.acm.org), and work together to prepare an exciting proposal. We encourage proposals for a wide range of workshops and tutorials, including but not limited to: - "Mini-conferences" on specialized topics; such workshops may have their own paper submission and review processes. - "Late breaking work" meetings; such workshops usually have a lighter review process (e.g. based on abstracts only). - "Hands-on" workshops around a specific problem or topic that may wish to ask participants to submit a position statement. - "Project centric" workshops that may be closely related to the scope of an existing large scale (e.g. NSF, EU, etc. funded) project. - "Mini-competitions", challenges, or hackathons around selected topics with individual or team participation. - Tutorials on a specific topic relevant to IUI; for example, methods and approaches in HCI and/or AI, specific techniques or algorithms to develop intelligent user interfaces, etc. Workshops and tutorials will be held on the first day of the conference. We invite submissions of proposals for full-day and half-day workshops or tutorials. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the workshop and tutorial chairs. Workshops with few submissions by Wednesday, 11 January, 2023 may be canceled, shortened, merged with other workshops, or otherwise restructured. The organizers of accepted workshops and tutorials are responsible for producing a call for participation and publicizing it, such as distributing the call to relevant newsgroups and electronic mailing lists, and especially to potential audiences from outside the IUI conference community. Workshop and tutorial organizers will maintain their own website with information about the workshop or tutorial and the ACM IUI 2023 web site will refer to this website. The workshop organizers will coordinate the paper solicitation, collection, and review process. A workshop and tutorials summary will be included in the ACM Digital Library for ACM IUI 2023, and we will separately publish a joint workshop proceedings for accepted workshop submissions (through CEUR or similar). PROPOSAL FORMAT Workshop or tutorial proposals should be maximum 2 pages long. Prepare your submission using the latest templates: Word Submission Template or the LaTeX template. The proposals should be organized as follows: - Name and title: A one-word acronym and a full title. Please indicate ?(Workshop)? or ?(Tutorial)? after the title, as appropriate. - Description of workshop or tutorial topic: This description should discuss the relevance of the suggested topic to IUI and its interest for the IUI 2022 audience. Include a brief discussion of why and for which audience the workshop or tutorial is of particular interest. - Previous history: List of previous workshops or tutorials that were held on the topic including the conferences that hosted past workshops or tutorials and the number of participants. - Organizer(s): Names, affiliations, emails, and web pages of the organizer(s). Provide a brief description of the background of the organizer(s). Strong proposals normally include organizers who bring differing perspectives on the topic and are actively connected to the communities of potential participants. Please indicate the primary contact person and the organizers who plan to attend the workshop. Also please provide a list of other workshops or tutorials organized by workshop organizers in the past. - Workshop program committee: Names and affiliation of the members of the (tentative) workshop program committee that will evaluate the workshop submissions. - Participants: A statement saying how many participants you expect and how you plan to invite participants for the workshop or tutorial. If possible, include the names of at least 10 people who have expressed interest to participate in the workshop or tutorial. - Workshop or Tutorial format: A brief description of the format regarding the mix of events or activities, such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels, demonstrations, teaching activities, hands-on practical exercises, general discussion. Please also list here any material you will make available to tutorial participants, e.g. slides, access to hardware/software, handouts, etc. Please describe your approach for a hybrid or virtual workshop if needed. - Planned outcomes of the workshop or tutorials: What are you hoping to achieve by the end of the workshop or tutorials? ACM IUI 2023 - Second Call for Papers

Ideal IUI submissions should address practical HCI challenges using machine intelligence and discuss both computational and human-centric aspects of such methodologies, techniques, and systems. The theme for this year will be Resilience, covering a wide variety of topics, such as COVID-19 recovery, organizational cyber resilience, economic growth and stability, climate change recovery, intelligent user interface resilience, and similars. While we encourage submissions related to this theme, the scope of the conference is not limited to the theme only. As always, contributions to IUI are expected to be supported by rigorous evidence appropriate to the claims (e.g., user study, system evaluation, computational analysis). Contributions are welcome from all relevant arenas, including academia, industry, government, and non-profit organizations. This year, there is no page limit on the papers (however, we strongly encourage authors to not exceed 10,000 words) and no formal distinction between long and short papers will be made. However, we expect the paper length to be commensurate with the scientific values and contribution of the work. Accepted papers will appear in the ACM Digital Library and citation indices. A selected set of accepted top quality full papers will be invited to submit their extended versions for publication in an ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems (TiiS, https://tiis.acm.org) special issue titled "Highlights of IUI 2023" that will appear in 2024. All accepted papers will be invited for oral presentation as part of the main conference program. Highlights of this year We encourage authors to critically consider practical implications and shortcomings of their work, in particular how the proposed methods and insights could be applied and deployed in a realistic setting and how they can improve people’s lives in the real world. We also encourage authors to discuss potential ethical considerations of their work; aspects pertaining to current societal issues; diversity, inclusion, and equality; and other topics under the broad responsible AI topic. Note that not all the papers, but only a small number with borderline scores or conflicting reviews, will be invited to submit rebuttals. Anonymization ACM IUI uses a double-blind review process. All submissions (and supplemental materials) must be appropriately anonymized according to the following guidelines: * Authors’ names and affiliations should not be visible anywhere in the paper. * Acknowledgements should be anonymized or removed for the review process. * Self-citations should be included where necessary, but must use the third person. [KaRS 2022] Third CfP: 4th Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems Workshop 2022 @ ACM RecSys

Call for Papers Fourth Workshop on Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems (KaRS 2022) https://kars-workshop.github.io/2022/ Sep. 18th - Sep. 23rd, 2022, Seattle, WA, USA Submission deadline: August 5th, 2022, AoE [SCOPE] We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the Fourth Workshop on Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems held in conjunction with the ACM International Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys 2022), Seattle, WA, USA, from September the 18th to September the 23rd, 2022. In the last few years, a renewed interest of the research community in conversational recommender systems (CRSs) is emerging. This is probably due to the great diffusion of Digital Assistants (DAs) such as Amazon Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant that are revolutionizing the way users interact with machines. DAs allow users to execute a wide range of actions through an interaction mostly based on natural language messages. However, although DAs are able to complete tasks such as sending texts, making phone calls, or playing songs, they are still at an early stage in offering recommendation capabilities by using the conversational paradigm. In addition, we have been witnessing the advent of more and more precise and powerful recommendation algorithms and techniques able to effectively assess users' tastes and predict information that would probably be of interest to them. Most of these approaches rely on the collaborative paradigm (often exploiting machine learning techniques) and do not take into account the huge amount of knowledge, both structured and non-structured, describing the domain of interest of the recommendation engine. Although very effective in predicting relevant items, collaborative approaches miss some very interesting features that go beyond the accuracy of results and move in the direction of providing novel and diverse results as well as generating an explanation for the recommended items. Furthermore, this side information becomes crucial when a conversational interaction is implemented, in particular for the preference elicitation, explanation, and critiquing steps. The 4th Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems (KaRS) Workshop focuses on all aspects related to the exploitation of external and explicit knowledge sources to feed and build a recommendation engine, and on the adoption of interactions based on the conversational paradigm. The aim is to go beyond the traditional accuracy goal and to start a new generation of algorithms and approaches with the help of the methodological diversity embodied in fields such as Machine Learning (ML), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Retrieval (IR), and Information Systems (IS). Consequently, the focus lies on works improving the user experience and following goals such as user engagement and satisfaction or customer value. The aim of this fourth edition of KaRS is to bring together researchers and practitioners around the topics of designing and evaluating novel approaches for recommender systems in order to: * share research and techniques, including new design technologies and evaluation methodologies; * identify the next key challenges in the area; * identify emerging topics in the field. [TOPICS] This workshop aims at establishing an interdisciplinary community with a focus on the exploitation of (semi-)structured knowledge and conversational approaches for recommender systems and promoting collaboration opportunities between researchers and practitioners. We also welcome contributions from the industry and papers describing ongoing funded projects which may result useful to the Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems community. We invite three kinds of submissions, which address novel issues in Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems: * Long Papers should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The Long papers must have a length of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Each accepted long paper will be included in the CEUR online Workshop proceedings and presented in a plenary session as part of the Workshop program. * Short/Demo Papers typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but significant proposals will be considered for acceptance in this category despite not having gone through sufficient experimental validation or lacking a strong theoretical foundation. Applications of recommender systems to novel areas are especially welcome. The Short/Demo papers must have a length of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Each accepted short paper will be included in the CEUR online Workshop proceedings * Position/Discussion Papers describe novel and innovative ideas. Position papers may also comprise an analysis of currently unsolved problems, or review these problems from a new perspective, in order to contribute to a better understanding of these problems in the research community. We expect that such papers will guide future research by highlighting critical assumptions, motivating the difficulty of a certain problem, or explaining why current techniques are not sufficient, possibly corroborated by quantitative and qualitative arguments. The Position/Discussion papers must have a length of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Original Position/Discussion accepted papers will be included in the CEUR online Workshop proceedings. Selected Position/Discussion papers will be invited as oral presentations. The review process is single-blind. Submitted papers will be evaluated according to their originality, technical content, style, clarity, and relevance to the workshop. Moreover, following the RecSys 2022 guidelines, reviewers will be asked to comment on whether the length is appropriate for the contribution. * We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this CfP * * For the online version of this Call, visit: https://iui.acm.org/2023/call_for_papers.html * ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (ACM IUI) 2023 is the 28th annual premiere venue, where researchers and practitioners will meet and discuss state-of-the-art advances at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Ideal IUI submissions should address practical HCI challenges using machine intelligence and discuss both computational and human-centric aspects of such methodologies, techniques, and systems. The theme for this year will be Resilience, covering a wide variety of topics, such as COVID-19 recovery, organizational cyber resilience, economic growth and stability, climate change recovery, intelligent user interface resilience, and similars. While we encourage submissions related to this theme, the scope of the conference is not limited to the theme only. As always, contributions to IUI are expected to be supported by rigorous evidence appropriate to the claims (e.g., user study, system evaluation, computational analysis). Contributions are welcome from all relevant arenas, including academia, industry, government, and non-profit organizations. We strongly believe that diverse insights are critical to the vitality of the IUI community and the conference will accept papers for both long and short oral presentations. This year, there is no page limit on the papers (however, we strongly encourage authors to not exceed 10,000 words) and no formal distinction between long and short papers will be made. However, we expect the paper length to be commensurate with the scientific values and contribution of the work. Accepted papers will appear in the ACM Digital Library and citation indices. A selected set of accepted top quality full papers will be invited to submit their extended versions for publication in an ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems (TiiS, https://tiis.acm.org) special issue titled "Highlights of IUI 2023" that will appear in 2024. All accepted papers will be invited for oral presentation as part of the main conference program. Highlights of this year We encourage authors to critically consider practical implications and shortcomings of their work, in particular how the proposed methods and insights could be applied and deployed in a realistic setting and how they can improve people’s lives in the real world. We also encourage authors to discuss potential ethical considerations of their work; aspects pertaining to current societal issues; diversity, inclusion, and equality; and other topics under the broad responsible AI topic. Submission instructions Important Dates * Abstract submission- Oct 7th, 2022 * Full Submission - Oct 14th, 2022 * Review released - Dec 9th, 2022 * Rebuttal period (by invitation only)- Dec 9th-16th, 2022 * Notifications sent - Dec 30th, 2022 * Camera Ready submission - Feb 3rd, 2023 Platform All materials must be submitted electronically to PCS 2.0 by the abstract and paper deadline. In PCS 2.0, first click "Submissions" at the top of the page, from the dropdown menus for society, conference, and track select "SIGCHI", "IUI 2023" and "IUI 2023 Papers", respectively, and press "Go". Note that not all the papers, but only a small number with borderline scores or conflicting reviews, will be invited to submit rebuttals. Anonymization ACM IUI uses a double-blind review process. All submissions (and supplemental materials) must be appropriately anonymized according to the following guidelines: * Authors’ names and affiliations should not be visible anywhere in the paper. * Acknowledgements should be anonymized or removed for the review process. * Self-citations should be included where necessary, but must use the third person. For example, "as shown in our previous user study [2]" is not allowed, while "as shown in Smith et al. [2]" is acceptable (in this case the citation [2] does NOT break anonymization). * Logos and other organizational affiliations in images should be blurred. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in submissions being desk rejected without review. Authors should also be aware of the SIGCHI Policy for Submission and Review at SIGCHI Conferences. Accessibility Authors are asked to make their submissions accessible (so that reviewers with vision impairments can access them, for example). The authors of accepted papers will be required to make their final PDFs accessible. Please use the SIGCHI Guide to an Accessible Submission If you submit a video as supplemental material, please provide captions, as described in Technical Requirements and Guidelines for Videos in a single column format. The paper should be anonymized and have line numbers on the left side of each page for review. Please refer to the Accessibilitypage for further details and guidelines. Submission format and length We will adopt the ACM TAPS Workflow Prepare your submission for review in a single-column format, using the latest templates: Word Submission Template or the Latex Template using \documentclass[manuscript,review,anonymous]{acmart} for the LaTeX template. Papers are of a variable length, although the paper length must reflect the scientific contribution of the work. That said, we encourage authors to stay within the 10,000 word limit. Supplemental materials Submitting supplemental material (e.g., questionnaires, demo videos, or data sheets) is optional but encouraged. Call for Papers Fourth Workshop on Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems (KaRS 2022) https://kars-workshop.github.io/2022/ Sep. 18th - Sep. 23rd, 2022, Seattle, WA, USA Submission deadline: August 5th, 2022, AoE [SCOPE] We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the Fourth Workshop on Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems held in conjunction with the ACM International Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys 2022), Seattle, WA, USA, from September the 18th to September the 23rd, 2022. In the last few years, a renewed interest of the research community in conversational recommender systems (CRSs) is emerging. This is probably due to the great diffusion of Digital Assistants (DAs) such as Amazon Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant that are revolutionizing the way users interact with machines. DAs allow users to execute a wide range of actions through an interaction mostly based on natural language messages. However, although DAs are able to complete tasks such as sending texts, making phone calls, or playing songs, they are still at an early stage in offering recommendation capabilities by using the conversational paradigm. In addition, we have been witnessing the advent of more and more precise and powerful recommendation algorithms and techniques able to effectively assess users' tastes and predict information that would probably be of interest to them. Most of these approaches rely on the collaborative paradigm (often exploiting machine learning techniques) and do not take into account the huge amount of knowledge, both structured and non-structured, describing the domain of interest of the recommendation engine. Although very effective in predicting relevant items, collaborative approaches miss some very interesting features that go beyond the accuracy of results and move in the direction of providing novel and diverse results as well as generating an explanation for the recommended items. Furthermore, this side information becomes crucial when a conversational interaction is implemented, in particular for the preference elicitation, explanation, and critiquing steps. The 4th Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems (KaRS) Workshop focuses on all aspects related to the exploitation of external and explicit knowledge sources to feed and build a recommendation engine, and on the adoption of interactions based on the conversational paradigm. The aim is to go beyond the traditional accuracy goal and to start a new generation of algorithms and approaches with the help of the methodological diversity embodied in fields such as Machine Learning (ML), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Retrieval (IR), and Information Systems (IS). Consequently, the focus lies on works improving the user experience and following goals such as user engagement and satisfaction or customer value. The aim of this fourth edition of KaRS is to bring together researchers and practitioners around the topics of designing and evaluating novel approaches for recommender systems in order to: * share research and techniques, including new design technologies and evaluation methodologies; * identify the next key challenges in the area; * identify emerging topics in the field. [TOPICS] This workshop aims at establishing an interdisciplinary community with a focus on the exploitation of (semi-)structured knowledge and conversational approaches for recommender systems and promoting collaboration opportunities between researchers and practitioners. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Knowledge-aware Recommender Systems. - Models and Feature Engineering: - Knowledge-aware data models based on structured knowledge sources (e.g., Linked Open Data, BabelNet, Wikidata, etc.) - Semantics-aware approaches exploiting the analysis of textual sources (e.g., Wikipedia, Social Web, etc.) - Knowledge-aware user modeling - Methodological aspects (evaluation protocols, metrics, and data sets) - Logic-based modeling of a recommendation process - Knowledge Representation and Automated Reasoning for recommendation engines - Deep learning methods to model semantic features - Beyond-Accuracy Recommendation Quality: - Using knowledge bases and knowledge graphs to increase recommendation quality(e.g., in terms of novelty, diversity, serendipity, or explainability) - Explainable Recommender Systems - Knowledge-aware explanations to recommendations (compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation) - Online Studies: - Using knowledge sources for cross-lingual recommendations - Applications of knowledge-aware recommenders (e.g., music or news recommendation, off-mainstream application areas) - User studies (e.g., on the user's perception of knowledge-based recommendations), field studies, in-depth experimental offline evaluations - Conversational Recommender Systems. - Design of a Conversational Agent: - Design and implementation methodologies - Dialogue management (end-to-end, dialog-state-tracker models) - UX design - Dialog protocols design - User Modeling and interfaces: - Critiquing and user feedback exploitation - Short- and Long-term user profiling and modeling - Preference elicitation - Natural language-, multi-modal-, and voice-based interfaces - Next-question problem - Methodological and Theoretical aspects: - Evaluation and metrics - Datasets - Theoretical aspects of conversational recommender systems [SUBMISSIONS] Submissions of full research papers must be in English, in PDF format in the CEUR-WS two-column conference format available at: http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip or at: https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/template-for-submissions-to-ceur-w… if an Overleaf template is preferred. Submission will be peer-reviewed and accepted papers will appear in the CEUR workshop series. Papers may range from theoretical works to system descriptions. We particularly encourage Ph.D. students or Early-Stage Researchers to submit their research. We also welcome contributions from the industry and papers describing ongoing funded projects which may result useful to the Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems community. The conference language is English. We invite three kinds of submissions, which address novel issues in Knowledge-aware and Conversational Recommender Systems: * Long Papers should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The Long papers must have a length of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Each accepted long paper will be included in the CEUR online Workshop proceedings and presented in a plenary session as part of the Workshop program. * Short/Demo Papers typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but significant proposals will be considered for acceptance in this category despite not having gone through sufficient experimental validation or lacking a strong theoretical foundation. Applications of recommender systems to novel areas are especially welcome. The Short/Demo papers must have a length of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Each accepted short paper will be included in the CEUR online Workshop proceedings * Position/Discussion Papers describe novel and innovative ideas. Position papers may also comprise an analysis of currently unsolved problems, or review these problems from a new perspective, in order to contribute to a better understanding of these problems in the research community. We expect that such papers will guide future research by highlighting critical assumptions, motivating the difficulty of a certain problem, or explaining why current techniques are not sufficient, possibly corroborated by quantitative and qualitative arguments. The Position/Discussion papers must have a length of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Original Position/Discussion accepted papers will be included in the CEUR online Workshop proceedings. Selected Position/Discussion papers will be invited as oral presentations. The review process is single-blind. Submitted papers will be evaluated according to their originality, technical content, style, clarity, and relevance to the workshop. Moreover, following the RecSys 2022 guidelines, reviewers will be asked to comment on whether the length is appropriate for the contribution. Shorter papers should generally report on advances that can be described, set into context, and evaluated concisely. Longer papers should reflect substantial contributions of lasting value.
